Art Radio

You all might be aware of this already, but just in case, check out one of my favorite art writers, the unique Thomas McEvilley in the PS1 Art Radio podcast. His book Art and Discontent: Theory at the Millennium is the only one I have read so far but it is so exciting in its straightforwardness to explain art in its complicated simplicity that I used to quote it to pick up girls. Ok, sounds crazy but at the time I thought it was in a place where girls might have cared…for such things. I also did some retyping of whole chapters to send by email just to make a point of how simple life-art could be. Regardless of all that, it is a must! read! book.

Also, the ps1 Art Radio has in its Art Talk section some cool podcasts including Glamorous Jen Denike in episode Artists Buying Art, very intereting inside and Miami Fabulous Christina Lei Rodriguez, Brandon Opalka, Pepe Mar, Ali Prosch and Christian Curiel in episode The Up-and-Comers. Check them out.

Artstar Reality

Recently I leaped in to the hd bliss of Voom and its Gallery Channel. …Originally I came to it thinking it would be a dumb down channel for the masses, but quickly discovered this channel is closely tied up to the German/French celebrated and my favorite ARTE channel and of course it is all but dumb. I was dumb to assume this,…you will say!.

Quickly I was watching Julian Schnabel at his studio doing his oversized stuff, Kim Young Jim in Korea doing his amazing fluid realtime videos and Tony Oursler recording his videos. Now, you have to understand that I watch lots of movies in my tv but most of the time I do not watch flipping channels tv, and I have never up to this point watch any of the so called reality tv… but I was quickly seduced to see Jeffrey Deitch from Deitch Projects host a reality tv show called Artstar, a tv program where 8 emerging artists try to become a star… in our little niche?!… in 30 days, non the less!. It was very reminiscent to see the artists get another asshole by art critic Barbara Pollock and to see Jeff Koons in; what I imagine has to be his most diplomatic side, give artists suggestions on how to be a trendy artist. It was fun to see inside the studios of real artstars like Koons’ many painters assistants, as well as inside the studios of Kehinde Wiley, Ryan McGinness and Jon Kessler. I am not sure how long this show has being running but I am now one artstar reality tv fan(believer).

ps: for those of you who are tech cool, I have dvred this episode and soon will be sharing it on my msn messenger shared folder, send me an email if you want to get access to it. By the way, I like the girl with dreadlocks on the floor and be careful, the blonde on the right is a guy.

Promiscuous Girl/Boy

As I spend an evening listening to the sticky tune by Nelly Furtado, Promiscuous Girl, I can not stop thinking of some girls. No words from me.. at this time, maybe in a future posting During a party last week, I saw this girl I was hitting on being played by a friend of mine who knew I was interested on her, later my friend acquaintance came to let me know about all her facial defects and to brag how dumb she was and that I did not have a chance…funny thing, I can see things as if I was in a bubble… maybe I am, but anyways, as I study this pop culture of ours (listening carefully to the lyrics of Furtado’s latest hit used to promote cell phones) maybe to do a painting and maybe to understand it as well, and I see a band I have venerated come back doing pop, Sonic Youth Rather Ripped, I wonder, are Furtado’s lyrics factually based? probably… in a music video? right?!, Is this new release by Sonic Youth the end of my times as a punk lover?

check sy and let me know what you think

Promiscuous girl
Wherever you are
I’m all alone
And it’s you that I want

N: Promiscuous boy
You already know
That I’m all yours
What you waiting for?
